SIR ARVI PARBO
Former Chair of the National Ethnic Broadcasting Advisory Council and Chair, Western Mining Corporation
The great thing about it (SBS) is that it is something which every Australian can enjoy. It is not a divisive experiment, it’s a unifying thing. But it does bring different cultures into the visibility of people from other parts of the world.
CONTINUATION OF INTERVIEW AS TEXT
I think the SBS setting up has been successful because it hasn’t been used to divide the ethnic groupings and hasn’t been used to divide them from the Australians, the people who have been here for many generations. It’s actually been a unifying force because the language of the channel is English although there are foreign language programs but they are always sub-titled.
