Cultural diversity is often experienced and expressed through the arts, Whether it be in the performances at inner city venues such as La Mama or Boite, or in the Victorian Art Centre's Mix it Up program, the arts build community, open up understanding, and challenge prejudices. The creation of Australian art -as in the Heidelberg School in the late nineteenth century- owed much to immigrant artists such as Luis Abrahams and Jane Sutherland. Today that diversity underpins modern Victorian culture, and the intercultural excitement that produces new ways of seeing, hearing and feeling our world.
