My father was very interested in politics, he used to spend half his life listening to the parliament, that’s how he spent every night, listening to parliament on the wireless. He was very interested but not in terms of Italian politics particularly, he was probably a little more radical than most Italians, his ancestors were very involved in – who was the man who took over it? Garibaldi wasn’t it?
Q:
Yeah, yeah.

Benn:
Yes, yeah. He’s – he had ancestors who were in Garibaldi’s army or whatever he had and he was very proud of all that part of his life. All his history and I suppose that meant that they probably talked politics a lot in Italy but he never did here very much. And he was interested in Australian politics but it wasn’t – didn’t take much interest in Italian politics. I think he thought he was here, and that was it.
