PROFESSOR JERZY SMOLICZ
Director, Centre for Intercultural Studies and Multicultural Education, University of Adelaide
I don’t think you can have multiculturalism without cultures. Because some people discuss it as if it was culture-free. It’s nonsensical. It must involve a number of cultures. So, I normally used to prefer the concept of cultural pluralism. And I am well known for stressing the importance of language. Because if you mention culture, I can hardly think of a culture without a language - so that one links with the other.
