There are a lot of people I went into politics with, who have just sort of recently dropped out over the last ten years, and they will go to their graves swearing by the White Australia policy.

And the Parliament was unanimous in those days. When I first went to work, my union ticket said ‘No Asiatic’ could be a member.
I mean we are making progress with Aboriginal people, we are making progress with the migrants, (but) don’t expect too much. I was active in politics when the White Australia policy was dropped, I mean you are talking to people who are a younger group, who supported that.
