MICK YOUNG
Minister for Immigration, Local Government and Ethnic Affairs, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Multicultural Affairs, 1987-88
I think that the period, the latter part of Fraser and my period, was the consolidation of acceptance. We took the debate to a new level, to some extent, out of the gutter, where a lot of people wanted to keep it, and I think taking our parties with us on these questions. Now a lot of people, of course, jumped on the bandwagon because all of a sudden they discovered there were a lot of voters in their electorate who actually liked the term multiculturalism and still do.
